About me
Welcome to my web page. My name is Dorothy Nicolle and, after living in many other parts of the world,
I have now settled in the beautiful county of Shropshire in the heart of England.
Can there be any better way to earn a living than by doing something that you enjoy and sharing
the enjoyment with others? I have always been fascinated by Britain and its history and studied the
subject at Leicester University where I gained an Honours Degree in British Archaeology and History.
Today I share my interests with visitors and local people alike by giving talks to groups of all sizes
and showing people around this beautiful part of the world as a professional Blue Badge tourist guide.
I qualified in 1993 as a Blue Badge Guide for the Heart of England region, although I have since
specialised in Shropshire and its adjacent counties. I am also now a member of the Institute of
Tourist Guiding and the Guild of Registered Tourist Guides.
As a result of my guiding and talks I was asked some years ago to write a book on Shropshire for the
Francis Frith Book Company. This, in turn, has led to further books so that I have now written nearly twenty
books altogether - all of them dealing with local and general history subjects.
About the Blue Badge
The Blue Badge is the only professional qualification in Britain for tourist guiding and is
recognised internationally.
It is awarded only to those guides who have undergone a detailed and comprehensive training, both in the
classroom and on the road. Subjects covered include an in-depth study of the Heart of England region as well
as a rigorous study of Britain's history and its monarchy, architecture, art and literature, industrial
heritage and also the natural history of the countryside.
Please note that I am unable to provide general tourist information. However Shropshire Tourism has an
excellent website which can answer all sorts of enquiries at
